Business Studies is real and relevant to our current lives and future career choices. By studying Business, the knowledge gained will empower the decisions made in the future. Learning about Business gives you essential information about the working environment that will be experienced, whichever organisation is chosen to be worked for. It gives technical knowledge about how business works but also teaches how to behave in the workplace as a manager or worker. In addition a business course provides preparation for what needs doing to set up a business and improve one. All business courses apply theory to real life current businesses.

 

Key Stage 4

Edexcel GCSE Business is offered to Year 10 students. It is studied over 2 years. It covers two themes. Theme 1: Investigating Small Business and Theme 2: Building a Business. There are two exams which are sat at the end of the course.

Theme 1 concentrates on the key business concepts, issues and skills involved in starting and running a small business. It provides a framework for students to explore core concepts through the lens of an entrepreneur setting up a business.

Theme 2 examines how a business develops beyond the start-up phase. It focuses on the key business concepts, issues and decisions used to grow a business, with emphasis on aspects of marketing, operations, finance and human resources. Theme 2 also considers the impact of the wider world on the decisions a business makes as it grows.
