History
KS3 Overview
In Years 7 and 8, students will study a broad spectrum of topics that focus on the development of Britain and its place in the wider world. These include:
- Year 7
- The Roman Empire
- The Norman Conquest
- Medieval Life
- The Tudor Dynasty
- The Stuart Dynasty and Civil War
- Year 8
- The Industrial Revolution (including a case study on Jack the Ripper)
- The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade
- 20th Century conflicts (including World War I, and World War II)
- The Cold War
- Terrorism
Assessment in Key Stage 3 is completed by various means, including source assessment and essay skills. These are marked by class teachers to inform planning and progression.
The History Department VLE is full of materials to support the teaching and learning of History throughout the Academy.
KS4 Overview
In Years 9, 10 and 11, students will study more in-depth topics that build on the knowledge and skills taught at Key Stage 3. Students sit the OCR B (School History Project) specification. It allows them the opportunity to study at A-Level. This is a challenging course, and includes a heavy amount of reading and writing.

At GCSE, the students sit the following options:
- Paper 1
- Crime and punishment in Britain, c1000-present and Whitechapel, c1870-1900: crime, policing and the inner city
- Paper 2
- Anglo-Saxon and Norman England, c1060-88
- Superpower Relations and the Cold War, 1941-91
- Paper 3
- Weimar and Nazi Germany, 1918-39
