UAH Christingle
UAH held its annual Christingle on Friday 3rd December. The event involves all of Year 7, plus musicians from all years and is in aid of The Children’s Society. Unfortunately, due to Covid, it was a rather different event this year, with musicians performing in the hall and the rest of Year 7 watching via MST, but we still managed to create the magic and excitement of other years, with one pupil commenting it was the best afternoon at the school so far! During the celebration, all the musical ensembles from Year 7 (Choir, Ukulele Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble and Mash Up Orchestra) performed and, for most, it was their first experience of performing in front of a live audience, a challenge to which they rose magnificently. We were lucky enough to be joined by Micki Carey-Slater, the Youth and Children’s Worker for East Elloe and Rev. Paul Carey-Slater of Sutton Bridge, who spoke to the pupils about the meaning of Christmas and the symbolism of the Christingle. Some pupils in Year 7 also performed a short play, again exploring the meaning of Christingle. Pupils were given oranges, kindly donated by Greencell in Spalding and packets of sweets and were challenged to create their own Christingle over the weekend. Alongside the event, the Academy is also holding a Christingle Colouring Competition, with all proceeds being donated to The Children’s Society. My favourite moment of the whole event was having all the musicians perform the song Love Shine A Light together – it really gave me goosebumps!
