Remembrance 2021
UAH held various activities during the week of Remembrance. All pupils attended a special Remembrance assembly via MST, in which they learned about the history of the poppy, remembrance and the Royal British Legion. In History, pupils created poppy related artworks and poetry, some of which was displayed in Pupil Reception. On the large front window of the school, three 6th Form art pupils created an amazing piece of art using cut out poppies and a silhouette of a soldier. The image is effective from inside and outside the school and changes as the light of the day alters. They have received many plaudits from the local community, who have thanked the school for this stunning tribute to Remembrance. Pupils who are members of the Army and Air cadets attended school in their cadet uniform on Remembrance Day.
On 11th November, we also held a special Remembrance ceremony in the Hall. All of Y7 attended, alongside the cadets and Chamber Choir. Readings and poems were given by Y7 pupils and Mr Morris gave a short talk on his experiences as a soldier. At 11am the school fell silent for two minutes. It was marked in the Hall by the homage read by our special guest, Alan Sheppherd, a member of the Royal British Legion. The Last Post and Reveille were played beautifully by Pawel Nieweglowski in Y13 and Chamber Choir performed a setting of In Flanders Fields.
