Who is this course for?
This course is for any prospective student that is looking to peruse Maths to a higher level for employment or university.
What will you learn?
The aims and objectives of this qualification are to enable students to:
- understand mathematics and mathematical processes in a way that promotes confidence, fosters enjoyment and provides a strong foundation for progress to further study
- extend their range of mathematical skills and techniques
- understand coherence and progression in mathematics and how different areas of mathematics are connected
- apply mathematics in other fields of study and be aware of the relevance of mathematics to the world of work and to situations in society in general
- use their mathematical knowledge to make logical and reasoned decisions in solving problems both within pure mathematics and in a variety of contexts, and communicate the mathematical rationale for these decisions clearly
- reason logically and recognise incorrect reasoning
- generalise mathematically

How long is this course?
All of our A-Level courses are two-year courses.
How will I be assessed for this course?
For this subject, students will be assessed through examinations which will take place at the end of the second year of study. In addition to formal examinations, throughout the academic year, students will also undertake mock exams, which will also help to assess subject knowledge and prepare for formal examinations.
Students will learn in a supportive classroom environment for their studies. Students will also be able to undertake independent study as part of this course as lead by their class teacher.
What are the entry requirements for this course?
It is desired that students have gained, or are working towards, a GCSE qualification in this subject at grade 7 or above. Additionally students should have 5 GCSE's grades 5-9 including Maths and English and minimum of grade 6 or above in their other chosen A-Level subjects.
Students must be aged 16-19 to study this course.
What can I go on to do after this course?
From successful completion of this course, students can go on to study in Higher Education.
From this course students and progress onto higher education for suitable related courses in this subject area. Alternatively this course also supports knowledge and understanding in the relevant field of employment. A Level Maths provides excellent preparation for those students who wish to progress to degree level study or pursue a wide range of careers.
